I represent part of a fanbase for an old video game, Legend of Dragoon. It is an RPG released about 18 years ago, with no developer updates post-launch. The soundtrack has been loved by the players ever since, and over 250 covers & remixes have been produced that we are aware of.

Some of us talk about hosting a radio station that features these re-imagined tracks. It would have 24/7 automated play of the above-mentioned tracks (pending author permission), as well as semi-regular podcasts, player interviews, music competitions, and so on. We wish to create this service as one method to help keep the community more connected worldwide with these songs, as well as community news and spotlighting notable contributors.

I would like to clarify that we are not looking to broadcast the original soundtrack as it doesn't seem legal without the IP owner's permission. Secondly, we do not want to make a profit from the station and it is an unofficial broadcast. We're not worried about potential server costs or "mass listener count" as this is purely for fans of the game.

We have set up a temporary "Music bot" that plays music tracks on command in our community Discord server, however it is not optimal for 24/7 broadcasting and it's not a "true" radio station - we're looking to have an internet URL that can be played on mobile devices and in cars, not just desktop computers. Radionomy was a surprising service to come across on the web last night, and it almost looks too good to be true. So, I am here I am to investigate a bit.

Does it sound like our needs can be met by Radionomy? Is there a setting to choose "non-profit" for our safety? Thanks in advance for any guidance. I'll be glad to answer questions if more information is asked of me!

it's not illegal to broadcast (webcast) copyrighted music as long as you pay royalties due to the artist/publisher, which Radionomy does.

While that's the least of our concerns - we don't need the OST, just a nicety - it does help knowing that we can branch into that direction if the rest is possible. Thank you.

Hello,

The condition to broadcast on Radionomy is to have legally acquired the media (purchased CD or MP3 file from a site respecting copyright). Each broadcast involves royalty payments to the relevant right holders.
Radionomy hosts and broadcasts the radio stations created on its platform http://rmo.radionomy.com and covers all costs relating to broadcasting rights. Radionomy is financed by moderately broadcasting advertising on the Radio Stations.

Please find below some links that will help you to create and/or manage your radio station.

Hi Domi,

I appreciate the helpful links! I had written a longer response, but have decided to backspace it. Unfortunately we cannot sustain the Minimum Audience requirement if we are basing our radio station on a single video game, rather than an entire music genre from mainstream musicians. It is simply impossible. I am sorry we don't fit your requirements, in my opinion we would become a great radio station without that clause. I understand the need to filter out unpopular radio stations that are just "taking up space." Thank you very much for your time. This thread can be closed.
