Having crossed over from Live365, I can testify that it's hard to launch a new station. So much competition to worry about. Sometimes, no matter how much effort you put in, a station is just not successful. It's easy for someone established to tell you to promote & "get the word" out and then magically you'll have listeners but that is simply not true. Yes, you have to promote but it won't guarantee you anything.

With that said, I have compiled below a list of good quality, but low-rated stations that I listen to regularly. A lot of people will only listen to highly-rated stations but there's an assumption that those stations are somehow better or more reliable. That's not always true as many of those stations have simply been around long enough that they've amassed a large listenership & have achieved name recognition. However, many low-rated stations provide the exact same content but because of their low profile they go unnoticed or even get deleted. At Live365 there was virtually no support of any kind for new broadcasters. You were simply thrown to the wolves, as it were. High rated stations were often spotlighted which helped them to become even more popular.

My suggestion is that Radionomy have something akin to a 'New Station Spotlight' where a new station gets featured on the homepage for a week to help them raise their profile. This could be done with the permission of the broadcaster to make sure they are ready to be featured. I once made this suggestion at Live365 & was met with a deafening silence. They simply were not going to promote low-rated stations. But how does a new station raise their profile with no promotion from the parent site?

Here are some stations that I love and listen to every day. I take my list of "favorites" & scoll down to the bottom where I only listen to the lowest stations. I rarely, if ever, listen to high-rated stations because they don't need the help. They are well-established.

Mine's not on there and I have only have 4 listening hours

I like the idea of promoting new station because if they get more money from bigger stations, they could have more bigger stations earning them more profit.

4 hours is about what I'm getting on a daily basis after less than a month on the air. I get a lot fewer hours on many days. I recently started posting my Now Playing notices on Facebook & Twitter so that should help.

The point is that every broadcaster here can help each other by listening to a variety of stations including the ones that need help.
