For those moving to TorontoCast, are you guys choosing Icecast or Shoutcast for your server? What is the rationale behind your decision? Is one better than the other when switching from AutoDJ to live and back again?

This article has some helpful info, specifically that Shoutcast v2.6 may only support MP3 going forward.
https://www.rocketbroadcaster.com/help/ ... -shoutcast

I also noticed that some stations in the TorontoCast directory display US flag icons that say "Licensed for the US". The majority of stations (including some US ones) do not show this. Does anyone know what determines whether or not a station receives this designation?

I chose Shoutcast mainly bacause of it's longevity. Plus the directory, if I ever get registered there.

Torontocast is running Ultravox/2.1 SHOUTcast v2.5.5.733/posix(linux x64) (cut'n'paste from Winamp). Considering how may AAC stations they have, I doubt they'll 'upgrade'.

I have no idea. It may be from some past licensing problem.

BTW, my station, under construction, is at http://instrumentalbreezes.torontocast.stream.

I took the one-month-free offer on Hazel (Evercast Pro Single). So far so good...

I'd like to know if anyone has posted, or is working on, a message to their audience about the move out of Radionomy. I'd like to get ideas as to what to put on my web site.

Thanks

I put a notice on my own web page but few people look at that. I plan to say something similar on the Radionomy station page in the next week or so, after I get the Torontocast stream looking like I want it to look (and sound).

Thanks for this. I hope you don't mind if I take a few sentences for my own message.
Cheers

No problem.

BTW, I like the web page Torontocast gives us. Easy to edit and versatile. Much better than "playtheradio".

To get a "torontocast.stream" web site you have to "buy" it. See their website sales page. You can get the "Starter" package for $2.95 a month with a $2.95 discount per month by putting "socan" in the coupon box upon checkout. The discount will be applied to all future renewals so it's actually free.

Once you "buy" it you can access it by logging in at https://clients.torontocast.com/clientarea.php. You should see a box with both your website and your stream, assuming you've already bought a stream. Click Website-Starter->File Manager->public_html and you're there. Unlike "playtheradio", it's blank. You have to code the whole thing yourself.

I took all of them off after trying Shoutcast. Didn’t want to be left without a license.

I’m not going to do anything right now. I’m leaving my website and social media up. When the time is right and the money is there, hopefully I’ll resume. My automation computer is backed up on a hard drive intact, tested it, etc. Just need a computer and a license. If and when the time comes, I’ll just hit play again.
