You're both over-thinking this.

Torontocast stations belong to Torontocast. They are streaming them. All you do is supply them with programming. They have to license their use of the material you provide. The same holds true for Radionomy and their stations. Radionomy even calls you a "Producer", not a "Broadcaster". If the PROs want more money they go to Torontocast or Radionomy, not you. That sometimes results in geoblocking, as we've seen.

I agree, but I think the moment a few of us US stations jump on Torontocast they’ll have to geolock the US.

The way that you can get into trouble with the PROs is by putting a player on your own personal webpage. The PROs, at least those in the US, don't license streams. They license websites that play music. That's why Radionomy provides the god-awful "playtheradio.com" pages and Torontocast provides a "mystation.torontocast.stream" website for your player(s). The Torontocast page looks good and seems very flexible.

I kind of agree with you here too, but I get a lot of listeners from my website player. I’d hate to have to redirect to another site.
Anyway, I’m also leaning towards jumping on the TorontoCast wagon. Thanks for all the info and clarification.

Thanks for the info and comparing notes. This Live365/Radionomy refugee is going with TorontoCast. I’ll be producing two stations under their ownership, broadcasting in Canada for Canada! I have one of their new stations broadcasting already, and it sounds great (with no condom man in sight!).

I went with 192kb. All of my tracks are encoded at 320kb already, but 320kb seemed like overkill. If for no other reason, the increased storage was important to me, at the minimal additional cost. 192kb is enough for me for now.

Just a couple of questions: How many here are thinking of just going dark on or before the May 31st Date? Is there a better deal out there than what has been offered? Not sure at this point what my decision will be.

At this point, I'm probably just going to let my station go dark. As much as I'd like to continue, licensing is always going to be an expensive issue for something that's supposed to be a hobby.

It’s just raw tracks streaming at random right now. I’ve got about 25% of my tracks uploaded. And no jingles until I get a web site updated on TorontoCast.

By the way, the subdomain hosting is free with streaming hosting promo code “socan”. I found that in a Facebook discussion.

Sounds good; nice clean sound, just right volume level.
I could get to like Celtic music; kind of grows on you.

I was going to wait until May to sign up but may do it sooner. :D

Nobex cutover was trivial, by the way. Edited my profile, it said there was a problem with my new streaming link, but I woke in the morning with an email from Michelle saying it was cut over, and it was.

I still haven’t figured out how to register with ShoutCast, and haven’t tried to reinstate with TuneIn.

I'm not sure where to find this information on TorontoCast site. When you upload your songs, does their system automatically encode to your selected bitrate, or do you have to encode every song yourself?
