I am in the process of setting up a new website for my station (which features mostly unsigned artists here in the United States who have approved of the use of their songs). This website will be a place for people to listen to my station as well as connect with those musicians.

So my question is are there any legal (or terms of service) ramifications if I were to monetize my website by including advertisements (such as Google Adsense banners)? I notice most people don't on their station's websites.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Remember when you start making money with another ones music or talent that doesn't set very well with the Radio or TV industry in America no matter who you are. When you broadcast an artists' music it should be licensed BMI, ASCAP or SESAC. it's really out of the artists hand whether we like it or not. Good luck.

I've also seen a few people selling promotional merchandise (shirts, hats, stickers, etc) on their respective radio station's websites in order to get more listeners, and I'm wondering if that is also frowned upon.
