When Radionomy implemented the geo blocking and other wonderful restrictions, I moved my main station to a shoutcast server and put up the money for licensing (it is doing well right now). But I wanted to keep an active presence on this platform. So I assembled a simple station that I had zero expectations. In fact I was expecting to barely make the 3 month 12hr/day and then squeak through until the 9 month mark and see my station deleted.

I started my current stream with no website, no promotion, not listing in internet radio directories, pretty much left it playing. To my surprise, in just over three weeks I have reached almost 250hrs/day. And to make matters even better, my station was listed in Apple iTunes Internet Radio Directory last week.

I am just a bit surprised and baffled. I do suspect that I may be getting listeners from defunct Radionomy stations that played similar music. Playing Japanese music with the country of Japan geo blocked is difficult to get listeners. But my station seems to be pulling them in other listeners and holding them. Even if they are listeners from deleted Radionomy streams. Usually those bumps last a week or so but die out as the deleted station's listener levels fall far enough to have them removed from Radionomy's directory (and Apple iTunes).

I am hoping this continues, but with Radionomy's current environment, who knows. I'll ride the wave until it dies I guess. I wonder what some actual promotion will bring in?

:D

Well done Cheeze - most of us 'radionomy only' stations are doing it tough. Are you getting a lot of your listeners from France? - they have a massive Anime listening audience.

I am seeing listeners from all over.It is actually pretty balanced. USA, France, Indonesia, Mexico, China, Germany, Korea, Bulgaria, Thailand, Peru, Poland, Spain and Malaysia.

Pretty interesting considering my former stream pretty much died when Radionomy cut everything. I am mainly surprised by the quick listing in Apple iTunes. The conspiracy person in me thinks Radionomy is looking for any money they can and putting stations in Apple iTunes gives many of them a boost. So they may be adding streams as soon as possible to keep the fast growing ones from dying out. But that's just a guess from me.

Interesting isn't it! It's been a curious exercise for me too.

75% of the audience for Asia DREAM Radio Japan have migrated to the 'off Radionomy' version, yet 25% still resolutely remain with the 'on Radionomy' version. I haven't even updated the station, nor promoted it, featured it on any third party directories, or given it any TLC since the beginning of May when Radionomy took a giant baseball bat and whacked me in the nuts with it.

The Radionomy version brings in an average of just under 300hrs a day with me doing absolutely nothing to it except for generating planning. I never listen to it (actually I can't since I'm inside the war zone) yet others seem to enjoy it. Go figure!

I guess one thing Radionomy has which helps listening figures is its homepage directory, plus their ability to stream a station through another defunct one. Interestingly, and somewhat ironically, the top of the tree on the 'Players' stats page turns out to be TuneIn (Lavf) lol!

The station's top countries are United States, who never figured in my stats before, then China, probably listened to by a host of expats, followed by Germany, France, and Mexico.
So in all likelihood the station will receive a stay of execution - though it's got to get through the barren summer months yet.

Yeah, my top country is the USA. I never had 1-2 listeners from the USA before, yet now I am seeing 5-10 at any given time. Another big surprise is that the music I am playing on this stream is the EXACT SAME songs (with newer releases added) I had on the other stream than tanked overnight. Who'd-a-thunk? LOL

Hello,

Possibly one or more "anime" stations have been deleted on July 1st and the listeners are now redirected to your station.
I checked with one deleted station and heard "Anime Hits".

What type of money did you have to put up to use a shoutcast stream?
