My radio station currently has 129 Tracks with a total of 7 hours and 5 minutes,

I am adding 30 new songs within the next week, which will for sure push me over the 8 hour mark..

My question is, what does your radio station have / what do you recommend my average be?

Thanks!

It all boils down to the format, really, and how often and long you expect your listeners to tune in and remain listening.

for instance for a top 40 type station, I'd program no more than 150-200 songs, spanning a selection of familiar songs rising up the charts along with high-impact songs from the last few years. Nothing older than 2013, whatsoever. Clocks are broken out into "Currents", "Recurrents" (recent hits), "Powers" (somewhat older hits that are still widely appreciated). This pretty much guarantees that when someone tunes in, they'll hear something they know..and depending on how you schedule it, there shouldn't be too many repeats during someone's listening time

But, here is how it is for a couple of my stations:

1 Pure EDM Radio - 819 tracks

Core list - 507 tracks (34 hours) spanning in time from the 1990s until a few years ago. This provides the backbone for the format by including many familiar songs. Each individual song may not play for days at a time, based on the rules.
Main Recent - 272 tracks (17 hours) This encompasses the last few years and is used periodically during the clock.
Currents High - 20 tracks (1 hour 9 minutes) - these are the top hottest songs based on industry charts and requests and are incorporated rather frequently (3 or 4 hours repetition) into the clock.
Currents Low - 20 tracks (1 hour 6 minutes) - these are current songs that aren't as high on industry charts and requests and are played less frequently (5 or 6 hours repetition)

1 Pure Alternative Radio - 506 songs

Currents High (20) - see above for explanation, same methodology
Currents Low (20) - see above for explanation, same methodology
Currents Misc (33) - these are songs that have just been released or are promotional or independent tracks. these are aired once a day.
Newer (217) - these are songs that were hits in the past few years
Older (216) - these are songs that were hits before the period of time
