Just a quick note to relate our first experience of using paid Facebook adds to drive visitors to our website (and then onwards to the radio station).

We thought might be fun to create a video featuring the album covers of some of the bands we play on 23 Indie Street. We blurred out the band name and album title to turn it in to a 'Name the Album' quiz.

We then paid £9 (12 Euro or $14) over 3 days (so £3 per day) to have the video show up in people's timelines on FB. In the end we were only charged £5 as you only pay for each person reached. We put a fair bit of effort in to tightly defining the audience that Facebook would use to target the ad - this is done by specifying bands that Facebook people have mentioned in their posts or liked.

This worked well in the sense that it appeared in 26,000 people's timelines and over 4,000 people watched the video. But it was less successful in that not many of the 4000 people clicked through to the website. During the campaign we did go from 3 or 4 listeners at any one time to 27 simultaneous listeners at the peak.

You can see the video on Facebook here:

So - only a modest success for only a modest investment. Does anyone have any tips for FB or Twitter advertising?

Thanks everyone x

23 Indie Street
See you down the front.

Hey. Glad you brought this up. I went through a similar experience as well. I made a video for my Kids Radio station and advertised it on FB - ran a promotion for 2 weeks. I had nearly 3000 views but only a handful clicked to the website. I had about 400 people like the video but only 20 people actually clicked the link to the website!

It is driving awareness for sure but its not resulting in actual listeners for now. Im guessing this is a long winding road and success isn't easy....
