:: Use Google Alerts to improve your audiences ::

A vast majority of creators would like to know where their audience comes from, what can cause a major rise, who speaks about them, if they have return listeners without being informed…and so on…

A very interesting and useful tool exists which can enable you to easily deliver what is said of your radio on the Internet and being informed daily by email of the webpages quoting your radio.

It's the tool "Google Alerts".

[attachment=1571:google-alert.png]

1) Why Use Google Alerts ?

It can help you for two essential things with regards to promotion:

=> Identify your sources of traffic/goes down for hearing
=> Identify sites/blogs/forums where to promote your radio

2) Use Google Alerts :

- Initially, connect you via a Gmail account. If you do not have any, you can create one of them, it is free, but it is not essential

- Go to http://www.google.com/alerts and make your choice of words (one by alarm) on which you wish to create a follow-up, at which frequency and at which email you wish to receive this alarm.

- Do not forget to click on “Preview" the results” before validating the alarm. That will enable you to check that the key words are properly selected.

To target your alarms:

According to your service waitings and in order to obtain relevant results, think well of the options and key words on which you wish to carry out a day before.

Let us take a concrete example; Radio Spleen, dedicated to Charles Baudelaire.

=> Its creator wants to know if one speaks about his radio, if there were an article on a blog, if a listener spoke about it…
It will enter
Required terms: Radio Spleen
Type: All

=> Finally, the creator of Radio Spleen knows that there are potentially full people who like "Baudelaire" but these people do not know about his radio. It thus wishes to know where to find these people to make known to them the existence of the radio.

Here some examples of alarms which it can ask:

Required terms: Baudelaire
Type: Blog

Required terms: romantic poet
Type: All

etc…

And now, every morning, you will learn where people spoke about your radio and where it would be necessary for you to speak about it!
